Toyota, Honda make longest lasting cars
A US survey of more than 174 million cars has revealed that just two car makers, Toyota and Honda, are able to build cars that are likely to last more than 400,000 km or 250,000 miles.
According to a new study by iSeeCars, when it comes to producing reliable vehicles, Toyota and Honda including Lexus and Acura, are in a class of their own.
The study revealed that those are the only four brands that rank above the industry average for their likelihood of reaching 250,000 miles which is a little more than 400,000 km.
The study, which ranked 32 car brands, revealed a significant gap between the top performers and the rest of the industry.
Unsurprisingly, Toyota and Lexus are found to be the most robust. Toyota vehicles have a 17.8 per cent chance of hitting 250,000 miles. This is 3.7 times the industry average.
Interestingly, while up there in second place, the Toyota luxury market running mate, Lexus is five percentage points behind Toyota. Lexus has a 12.8 per cent chance of hitting 250,000 miles. This is 2.7 times the industry average.
iSeeCars said that its data reveals “a clear performance gap, with 28 of the 32 brands falling below the 4.8% industry average.
Amongst luxury cars, Tesla joins Lexus, Acura, Cadillac and Lincoln as the only brands above the 3.2% luxury average.
iSeeCars executive analyst Karl Brauer said in a statement. “Japanese cars have a well-earned reputation for durability and our analysis of 174 million vehicles confirms it.
“Toyota, Lexus, Honda and Acura are producing cars with a substantially better-than-average chance of reaching a quarter-million miles, while most brands are struggling to keep pace,” he said.
