Toyota ups the ante with the most “Aussie” HiLux yet
The new-generation Toyota HiLux — long the benchmark for reliability among Aussie tradies — lands in showrooms this December, boasting a tougher design, smarter tech, and comfort levels that push it closer to the SUV side of the spectrum.
“The HiLux has long been one of Australia’s favourite cars, trusted to perform day in, day out,” Toyota Australia’s Sean Hanley said.
“It is a vehicle that’s baked into Australia’s identity, so it’s fitting this new-generation HiLux can lay claim to being the most Aussie HiLux ever.”
With prices starting from $33,990 for the 4×2 WorkMate single cab-chassis, the updated HiLux lineup covers every base — from single, extra and double cabs to 4×2 and 4×4 options across five grades: WorkMate, SR, SR5, Rogue and Rugged X.
Whether it’s for hauling tools, towing trailers or escaping for a weekend off-grid, Toyota’s new range looks set to keep pace with Australia’s growing fleet of high-tech tradie rigs.
Tradie-tested comfort and connectivity
Inside, even the base WorkMate gets a major glow-up. A 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital instrument cluster, and all-weather floor mats all come standard.
Step up to the SR or SR5 and you’ll find extra touches like wireless phone charging, dual-zone climate control, heated seats, and an eight-speaker sound system — perfect for early starts and long days.
The new HiLux also brings Toyota’s expanded Connected Services, adding safety and convenience features such as Automatic Collision Notification, SOS emergency calls, and remote locking via the MyToyota app.
Built for worksites and weekends
Powering the full range is Toyota’s proven 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine, with both manual and automatic transmissions available. Select 4×4 models also include Multi-Terrain Select, downhill assist, and even a 48-volt V-Active system for smoother acceleration and improved efficiency.
For those who want the full works, the top-end Rogue and Rugged X models deliver serious off-road cred with upgrades like 18-inch alloys, marine-grade bedliners, LED light bars, and full tow packages straight from the factory.
As Australia’s ute market heats up with contenders from Ford, Isuzu, and newcomers like BYD, Toyota’s latest HiLux is making a clear statement: it’s not just keeping up — it’s raising the bar for tradies nationwide.
