Toyota slashes bZ4X prices by up to $10K

SLOW sales of its fully electric bZ4X midsize SUV (less than 1000 units last year) and NVES requirements has prompted Toyota Australia to “go for the doctor” in an attempt to scare up buyers through sweetening the bZ4x proposition with more of everything except the price.

Toyota Australia has slashed the price of the bZ4X by up to $10,010 (for the single motor variant)

It now lists from $55,990 plus on-road costs while the dual motor variant is from $67,990 – a discount of $6910.

The price cuts and equipment upgrades follow a recent similar move over at Subaru Australia with its same-under-the-skin Solterra BEV that has attracted even fewer buyers (less than 400 last year) than the Toyota.

The upgraded bZ4x takes plethora of Chinese and European fully electric BEVs offering improvements to performance, driving range, safety and convenience and, according to Toyota, “overall customer value”.

Both front-wheel drive single motor (FWD) and all-wheel drive dual motor (AWD) variants feature more powerful electric motors fed electrons via a new 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery.

Concurrent with the battery upgrade are power/torque increases to 165kW/268Nm for the single motor and 252kW/438Nm combined for the dual motor, the former representing a 15kW/2.6Nm gain the latter a 92kW/101Nm gain.

Toyota says the upgraded battery offers improved energy density with an increased number of cells, which helps contribute to a greatly increased FWD driving range of a claimed 591km on the WLTP cycle, and 517km for the AWD representing a gain of 155km on the former, 106km on the latter.

“Charging performance has also been improved, with 22kW three-phase AC charging system (up from 11kW) now standard on Australian models, which can charge the battery from 10 per cent to full in as little as 3.5 hours when connected to a 32A, three-phase power supply”, said Toyota.

However, with 150kW DC charging, Toyota says the bZ4X can be charged from 10-80 per cent in approximately 30 minutes (under ideal conditions).

In an effort to optimise performance on the BEV, Toyota engineers have “optimised” the performance of the eAxle integrated inverter, motor and transaxle, helping to reduce power losses and weight while enhancing output.

Making for a more efficient drive are paddle shifters on the ‘wheel which are used to program four different levels of regenerative braking strength to suit the driver’s preferences while providing one pedal driving facility.

Other bZ4X upgrades for the FWD model are new 18-inch alloy wheels with two-tone aero covers, roof rails, puddle lights, headlight cleaners and gloss black wheel arches.

Additional comfort and technology features have been included as standard including a larger 14.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system, dual front wireless smartphone chargers, a heated steering wheel, nanoeX cabin air ionisation, a powered tailgate with kick sensor, and a 1500W inverter in the luggage area which can be used to remotely power smaller appliances.

On the safety front, the update scores, additional to previously, blind spot monitor with safe exit assist, rear cross-traffic alert, driver monitor camera, panoramic view monitor and an additional driver’s knee airbag, bringing the total number of airbags to eight.

New features on the dual motor AWD include new-look, aerodynamically enhanced 20-inch alloy wheels, memory and reverse tilt function for the heated exterior mirrors, eight-way adjustable front seats, digital rear-view mirror and radiant front-seat heating, which uses a set of infrared panels installed in front of the front occupant’s legs to only heat solid objects in the panels’ line of sight.

Should a buyer want to tow something, the AWD bZ4X is now rated at a braked capacity of 1500kg, double the previous model. It also provides X-Mode off-road traction control system, downhill assist control and vehicle stability control.

Sweetening the deal for private buyers is the inclusion at no cost of a choice of either a complimentary 7kW Jet Charge home charger (not including installation), or a free 625kWh one year voucher via the Chargefox public charging network.

The Jet Charge wall charger provides approximately three times faster charging than a standard three-pin charging cable and can be upgraded by the customer to a 22kW unit with the customer paying the difference.

Private and business buyers who choose to finance their bZ4X purchase through Toyota Finance Australia via either a Consumer, Business or Guaranteed Future Value loan are also entitled to a limited-time deposit contribution of $5000 for FWD grades or $7500 for AWD, providing even greater value.

The bZ4x is available in five exterior colours comprising standard Eclipse Black and optional Frosted White, Liquid Mercury, Feverish Red and Saturn Blue. The tones are paired on FWD variants with black synthetic leather and fabric upholstery, or the choice of black or grey synthetic leather on the AWD.

AWD customers can also choose a two-tone paint colour scheme for the four optional colours, matched with a black roof.

After previously indicating there’d be no price cuts for the bZ4X, Toyota Australia vice president of sales, marketing and franchise operations Sean Hanley said the upgraded model range offered incredible value for customers.

“Toyota is committed to delivering the best value possible to our customers and bringing them better product solutions as achieved in this new upgraded bZ4X model range,” he said.

“(It has) better specification, greater driving range and the latest safety features are all upgrades which will be welcomed by customers.

“The Toyota bZ4X is a fantastic vehicle and a crucial part of Toyota’s multi-pathway approach in Australia.

“Since its introduction in early 2024, we’ve seen major shifts in the Australian automotive landscape, most notably the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard (NVES) introduced in 2025.

“At Toyota, we take a portfolio approach to NVES. As a leader in hybrid technology, we aim to remain self-sustainable while ensuring our electrified and internal combustion vehicle portfolios complement each other.”

In conjunction with the bZ4X SUV update announcement, Toyota Australia also said it will further expand its BEV offering in the second quarter of 2026 with the arrival of the new bZ4X Touring which will provide even greater powertrain output along with additional rear storage, perfect for customers requiring larger cargo volume and versatility.
